'Harvey' Horse Trailer to Pop-up Shop Conversion
'Harvey' - Horse Trailer to Pop-Up Shop Conversion
'Harvey' was a fantastic 1980's trailer bought from a dealer in Huddersfield, specifically to convert into a mobile sales/shop unit. Although quite old, it was in very good condition structurally, with a galvanised chassis and steel panels.
We needed this trailer to operate our small business out of, which was a laser-engraving gift personalisation store. We set up two laser engraving machines in the trailer, with a few boxes of blank stock (chopping boards, coasters, boxes, picture frames etc) and made orders for customers while they waited, which was a pretty unique selling point.
I worked out that the standard way of converting a trailer, normally for a bar or cofffee van, was to install a basic hatch to serve through. This didn't suit us as we also needed counter space to display our wares, and we wanted to create a large browsable area for customers to see and touch the products. So I reversed the curved front entry door, and with a system of folding and sliding panels, we had a very large display counter. The unit was designed to be set up and packed away easily and quickly - important at the end of a hard day in a field!
The trailer worked wonderfully, and we only moved on as we needed a bigger unit, for larger machines and more staff - check out 'Peggy', our next trailer conversion!
