Revisit 2025 - Grand Designs Wirral House

Nine years after our first eposide aired on Grand Designs, back in 2016, we welcomed the team back to film a revisit, which aired in November 2025.

A lot happened in those nine years... The upstairs slowly progressed as we plasterboarded the walls and built bedrooms and bathrooms. We moved some of the stud walls to create differently sized rooms than originally designed - one of the advantages of camping in the house before it was finished!

A couple of years go we were able to finally build the garden room extension, which we had always planned. In fact we dug the found foundations and poured concrete for them as part of the first build. In the end, the shape we had first designed wasn't right - angled walls and angled roof made it hard to detail design and quote for, so we simplified it into a nice, straightforward rectangular box. It meant we had to pour partial new footings, but... c'est la vie.

This extension finally fulfilled the promise of the site. The garden is 5 or 6 feet down from the main house ground floor, so it was always a bit disjointed and we didn't use it much - in fact we left the garden as not much more than a building site until this year. Now, though, the split level access from the kitchen (with my little bar) gives us an easy, comfortable route up and down and we access the garden and deck easily from our new lounge. What a difference. Should have done it years ago!

It was very rewarding to have the Grand Designs team interested in the house and our progress again, and we love the end result of the episode.

Wonder if they will want to come back again in another decade?
