Design and shopfitting of a blank retail unit at New Chester Market
Our small business, Custom Gift Studio, was one of the first tenants of the multi-million pound development of the new Chester Market in Chester city centre. This award-winning architectural market is a buzzing destination with shops, stores, and food and drink offerings, a long way from a standard old-fashioned market hall.
After success with our shipping container retail unit at Cheshire Oaks, we wanted to expand locally and the new market was a very attractive destination. The unit was small and empty, and our challenge was to cram a great deal in to it: not only a display area and serving counter, but a working area to house laser-engraving machinery, store stock and provide a basic rest area for staff.
Sketchup 3D models were vital here. I could try many iterations of designs to within a couple of centimetres accuracy to the real unit, meaning I could make pieces offsite and simply install them.
Once up and running, there were further improvements to make; but these had to be fast overnight shopfits. as we no longer had the luxury of the building being closed to the public for works! Again, designing installations for quick fitting was key.
